I feel the only way for you to verify the identity of the man will be in acquiring this death certificate.

Australian certificates potentially hold a lot of information and, as it is seems to be your mother' s family from what you say, it could be significant and helpful to you.

If you are struggling with the download process, perhaps there is someone in the neighbourhood or community centre who could give you a hand. It is quite straightforward once you begin

          this started at a family gathering [7 sons 2 sisters] someone mentioned
 about dad having a brother so getting to retirement thought i would take the challange [fool me] my son found the gravestone of g/gf as it went on i found my dad had a brother charles walter also 2 sisters who died at 1yr an11yrs old
so have got the cert of the marraige of c.w.dowling so i have sent for d.cs.
of dads father,mother and charles walter so waiting for them ..j.h.dowling had 11 siblings so while waiting for certs thought i would try and find john henry dowling  as this was my dads name.... i did not know of these members existed
as dad must had a fall out or something like that and never spoke of them ??

 mums side of the mcgraths  i have  a cousin who  has so far got them to glasgow in 1845

No John,  he is a Heart's supporter.   Very staunch- he has the gear to prove it.      We have to stay up to 4am sometimes to watch the games  (why can't you play these matches at civilised times ?  )
