Mooney/Macalane Tamlaght O'Crilly
« on: Friday 24 August 12 09:15 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am hunting for Bernard Mooney and Rose Macalane. I have found their son Bernard Mooney who came to Australia with wife Mary Alexander in 1840 on the ship Champion. Bernard and Mary were married in Portpatrick Scotland about 1826. Bernard was born in Tamlaght O'Crilly, Mary was a native of Portpatrick. 5 children accompanied them on the voyage (Margaret, Rosanna, Mary, Henry and Sara) and a 6th was born on the ship. I can document the family from here. My problem is that I can not find Bernard Mooney senior or Rose Macalane who I assume remained in Ireland.

I have found the following records:

Bernard Mooney d. 1849 Kilrea, Derry. Address: Moneydig.
Rose Mooney d. 1859 Maghera Parish, Derry. Address: Granahan

I dont know if these are the people I am looking for, but I cant find any other likely candidates. Also, I would like to find the birth records of Bernard junior and his children but I have drawn a blank there as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Mel

With regards to Bernard Mooney, according to 1831 census I believe he was living with son and wife at house 64, Killygulib, Tamlaght O'Crilly, but no details available. Indications are that Bernard was born around 1775 and Rose 1777. The son Bernard was born in 1797 and wife Mary Alexander in 1806
