George SAVAGE, NZ
« on: Monday 27 August 12 10:08 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have recently been researching my tree and found that my great uncle,  also a George Savage emigrated to NZ i believe after WW1....so I googled his name and found your post. I wondered if you could give me a few pointers on tracing ancestors in NZ

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the NZ Board and Rootschat.

Do you have a date of birth for George?

That particular George Savage described himself as a farmer on the passenger list and is possibly the George Savage who has a WW1 Military File at Archives NZ. That file will list his next of kin, which given his age could well be his parents. Could be worth getting it digitised.

Hi Jim,

I've requested the file for you. it should appear on Archway
http://archway.archives.govt.nz/ in a couple of weeks or so. Be aware that Archives NZ are very busy at present.

Don't look for the file using the link to the file Alamar provided above as this will not show the link to the digitized file. Search his name using the Archway search portal I gave in the paragraph above.

Hi Jim,

George's Army personnel file has been digitized and is available to view.

From a brief read it mentions a daughter.

Happy reading.
