Indexing widows
« on: Thursday 30 August 12 23:09 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for a widow's second marriage. I searched on Family Search under her maiden name, her first marriage name and her second husband's name and I found a result for each on the same page, year, quarter etc.
Would a widow have be indexed twice for the second marriage in this way?

I know the only way to be sure is to send for it but I just wondered if this made sense.

I think you mean that you searched on FreeBMD.

Yes, maiden/previous names are recorded (but not for earlier years)
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Strange.

No, FreeBMD is for England and Wales only. Sinann is correct- Family Search (www.familysearch.org) has the Irish civil registration index.

Yes, a widow could be listed twice- under both maiden name and married name.

If you want to post the details (as long as there are no living people involved) we might be able to verify this for you.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks, it looks good.
I have her first marriage to my grand uncle and always wanted to know what happened to her.
I can't give the names on this one, all safely dead  but a long story, I'm hoping this will prove a connection heard about in a chance remark a few years ago.
I'm checking with her grand niece so waiting to hear from her.
