Kirby Family of Wine Street Bristol circa 1728
« on: Sunday 09 September 12 01:56 BST (UK) »
Have my fingers crossed that the forum members may be able to assist as I am not getting much traction on this family who were Quakers. I have a Genealogist.co.uk subscription and an ancestry subscription but for some reason no success to speak of for this family hence this post.

I would love some assistance with family members (I know a few) and their details please..  What I know:
  • Sarah Moon daughter of Paul Moon and Mary nee Bowen and William Kirby/Kerby (parents unknown but he was a Clothier) married in the Friends Meeting House Bristol on 19 Sept 1726
Sarah and William bore at least 4 children
    William born 9 May 1728
Mary born 1 March 1734 - may have died 7 Feb 1765 James Parish
    Thomas born 19 May 1741
    Benjamin born 21 Feb 1743
William senior died 1 Nov 1758 buried at Friends burying ground near Workhouse
Sarah died 20 Aug 1766 at St Augustine Parish Somerset (not 100% sure this is the right person but am keeping an open mind till it is confirmed)

That said I cannot get any traction on what became of the family members.  I have not been able to locate a Will for William Senior nor Wills for any siblings or Sarah.  Any and all assistance will be much appreciated.

Hi MxmarO

It may have no significance, but Sketchley's Bristol Directory of 1775 has a Jacob Kirby, attorney at N.P.& M.C., 58 Wine Street, Bristol as well as a John Kirby , basket maker of 7 Bedminster.

Hello Steve
This is great as some other family members also lived at Wine Street.  I have a Jacob in other related families so will keep this one in reserve.  Thanks a million for respnding.

Hello Westy11,
Not sure when you posted this, but you have the name of my 4th great-grandfather, Thomas Kirby. He married Betty Stile and died in 1803 at Walcot, Somerset. His son, Charles William, moved to St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean. So, now you know what happened to at least one of them! I didn't know they came from Wine Street, so thank you for that information.
