Could anyone please give me an idea of where to start looking for the Godfordson branch of my family;Thomas Godfordson born c1777 is shown on his daughter's Birth Records as being a native of Wales

His father ( Thomas d1788) may well have been born in Wales but as he was a Master Mariner that is not necessarily the case..
If anyone could give me some clues I'd be extremely grateDave
