Passanger lists to US after 1901
« on: Monday 10 September 12 10:40 BST (UK) »
Hello

I've tried to search for this on Anc but it seems that our current membership does not give me access to this information.

My uncle recalls that his great uncle 'hot-footed' to America in disgrace and using a process of elimination and by some of the hints that have come up on his name on the family tree on Anc I think that I have worked out which great great uncle of mine it is. There are 4 boys - one is my grandfather, another died in the UK in 1963 and the third is the grandfather of another descendent who i have contact with, leaving just the one.

I was wondering if anyone could do a search for me and see if they can find out if and when he did go to America.

His name is Alfred George Jackson and he was born sometime around June 1887 to George and Sarah Jackson. He was born in Fleet, Lincolnshire and the last census return information I have for him is in 1901 when he is living with his parents, aged 13 in The Hargate, Fleet Lincolnshire. I can't find a 1911 census entry for him or a registration of death either.

So I believe that he may had sailed to America sometime after the 1901 census on reaching a suitable age I suppose.

The Anc hints for his name include a US World War 1 Draft Registration Card, 1917-1918 Record where he is listed as living in Oakland, Michagan. the second is a border crossing record from Canada to the US- 1895-1954.

I would be grateful if anyone could find out any information for me.

Thanks in advance

Melanie

Port of Departure: Liverpool, England to Quebec. Canada on the SS Lake Manitiba, arriving 8 November 1910. Its a little jumbled but would Uncle -  T Copeland. Harrogate mean anything  ???
