Weavers of Perth - is there a Volume 2 yet?
« on: Tuesday 11 September 12 15:26 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if Chris Paton ever realeased Volume 2 of his Weavers of Perth?

I invested in Vol 1 and found it very helpful. His website still states that Vol 2 'will be released at the end of 2009' but I can't find any mention of it being available to buy.

As I have Perthshire interests (not the city of Perth, though) and get regular updates from one of Chris Paton's blogs, I thought I might be able to answer this. Unfortunately I can't find the information anywhere, so it may be best to ask him direct.

According to his blog (http://britishgenes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/bifhsgo-conference-2012.html) he'll be at a conference in Canada for the next few days, but I imagine he'd be only too happy to help when he gets back.

Its actually a CD, Tiki.

I'll give you the list of items included:

- weavers in the 1802 Militia Act census for Perth
- Children born to weavers in Perth 1770-1844 (OPR entries)
- Freemen weaver appointments 1719-1812
- Indenture book records 1746-94
- minutes of the Weaver Incorporation 1794-1809
- indenture papers held at Perth & Kinross Archives
- subscriptions to the Weavers' Seat in St John's Kirk 1749-1751
- Weavers in Perth Trade Directories in 1837 and 1844.

I found it very informative - which is why I'm looking for Vol 2!

Arthur,

Thanks for that. Chris certainly seems to get around - maybe he hasn't had chance to produce Vol 2? I think I'll email him direct - will let you know the answer.

Jill

Thanks Joll. By chance, and if you don't mind, is there a weaver by the name of James Sommerville born circa 1800? Or his daughter Catherine born 1825?
Thank you so much if you can look them up.

Hi All
I did a search on Scotlandspeople

You searched for: Surname: "s*mmerville"; Surname Option: Wildcard; Forename: "catherine"; Forename Option: Wildcard; Sex: "Female"; Parent 1 Name: "james"; Date From: 01 January 1823; Date To: 31 December 1827;

You get 3 hits for a Catherine with father James

2 in Dunfermline which I think are the same person in 01/08/1823 and 01/09/1823

1 in Glasgow in 27/09/1825

Summerville is spelt Sommerville

Oh thank you so much Jill and Bruce, I believe this is my family. Catherine was Catherine D Sommerville and possibly it was Ding! So now it is worth getting that death certificate and seeing if it matches. I will let you know.
Bruce - is it free to search the website?
Thank you again for your time and effort. Tiki

Hi Tiki1962

WWW.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  is a pay per view site credits cost £7.00/30 credits  1credit to view index

5 credits to download  keep in mind that statutory registration did not start in scotland until 1855

all you will be seeing are pages from the parish register both parents may not be listed it depends on how well the kirk kept their records.

you could allways try www.familysearch.org  this is a free search but this is  only an index.
Scotlands people lets you download the actual document.
