Watson, immigrant 1867?
« on: Thursday 13 September 12 06:36 BST (UK) »
Hi there
Does anyone know how to look up the crews of immigrant ships?
My ancestor Eliza Watson came out on the Blue Jacket in 1867 (Lyttleton), with the single women, but there is no record of her husband John Watson in the passengers.  He may of worked his passage but I can't find any record of this either
Any help gratefully accdepted!
Thanks and cheers
Alan

What year id they get married ?was it in England
He could have come separate..seems strange to us for such a long journey but men did often come by themselves to seek fortune, see what the new country was like

Crew lists for these years are not organised like later years. The LDS films for later years show crew lists. Often the only way of gathering info on crews is by browsing paperspast and they will mention crew members and perhapsa crime or that they are missing..with many doing a runner

Bye
Althea

Thanks Althea
They got married in Carland Presbyterian Church, County Tyronne on 29 March 1867, left England June 15 and arrived in New Zealand August 29, all in 1867!
I'll keep looking
Thanks and cheers
Alan

What about a detour to see the assisted passinger lists/arrivals, maybe there are more details about Eliza and possibly JOhn there. I have some from other voyages...??at archives..some one else may know
