William Heffernan & Mary Watson Dublin
« on: Friday 14 September 12 09:06 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information about William Heffernan who married a Mary Watson in Dublin.
Their son James Joseph Heffernan (b1920 7 St Kevins Cottage, Synge Street, Dublin. d1986 Birmingham) was my Father-in-Law, Jim's siblings were Christopher, William, Mary & Michael (all older than Jim)

William died in London, sometime after the War, but my Mother in law is unsure when.

I believe Christopher the eldest was born in 1911, but after the census, so no luck there. The only William Heffernan, that I can find of about the right age was in Kevin St. Dublin, but I have been told elsewhere this isn't the right one.

I know its all a bit vague, but if this rings a bell with anyone I would be grateful for any information. The only other rumour that I have is that the family may have originally come from Cork.

Thanks
Tom

Christopher would probably be the most distinctive name from the other children - just a handfull of births registered for the name between 1910 and 1915 - one died in infancy, but there is a Christopher Edward Heffernan in 1910, and a couple slightly later...

Hello,

You can search Irish BMD indexes on Family Search. On that site there is a 1910 marriage where Mary Watson and William Heffernan have the same references.
The marriage certificate may be a good place to start.

regards
heywood

Could this be them in 1911?

I didn't think William was that old, so I don't think so, but.. I will double check with my Mother in Law, she only met him once or twice though after the war!

neither surname is that common and that possible marriage is a very good fit - except the years married dont quite agree - 3 when it should be 1. The occuaption chould be the key to confirming, or ruling it out...

here are the likely references for the birth in case you need to order a cert :

  Name: James Joseph Heffernan
  Registration district:Dublin South
  Event type: Birth
Quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1920
  Volume: 2 / Page:   697
