William Allison (1765)
« on: Saturday 15 September 12 15:41 BST (UK) »

My wife's 4x great grandparents are William Allison (1765) & Mary Scotson (1758), who married in Osmotherly on September 9th 1786. I think he is the son of William Allison (1742) and Mary Brown (C1740).

I should be pleased if this could be confirmed and also when they died.

Thanks

It appears they were both from Thimbleby :

~~~~~~~~~~
Osmotherley Parish
Imprimis of Marriages 1786
September 9th
William Allison and Mary Scotson both of Thimbleby in this Parish married by Licence.
~~~~~~~~~~

Kind regards,

Pels.

I'm not sure whether this is William, or not :

Burial date : 15th April 1837
William Allison
Age : 81 years
Approx year of birth: 1756
St Peter & St Paul's, Osmotherley
North Riding of Yorkshire

Again, a good possibility for Mary :

Burial date : 3rd February 1850
Mary Allison
Age : 90 years
Approx year of birth: 1760
St Peter & St Paul's, Osmotherley
North Riding of Yorkshire

Is this Mary in 1841, Chris :

~~~~~~~~~~
1841 census :
HO107/1234/4, Page 4
Yorkshire, Osmotherley
Thimbleby
Mary Allison, 80
Born in County
~~~~~~~~~~

The Thimbleby connection would certainly fit with the marriage and Mary's
age with the above mentioned burial.

Chris - could I ask where you found this information and these dates, please ?

Pels,

This was from one of my other correspondents. I am unsure of it, that's why I said  "I think he was the son of...".

Thanks very much for all the other information - it is a great help. I hadn't picked up the Thimbleby connection previously, but this seems correct.

Many thanks, and if you find out anything else, please let me know.

Chris

Hi again, I'm wondering if you know about this, Chris :

Please forgive the idiots guide, but I only found the Osmotherley Transcripts about a fortnight ago. I'd never have thought to click on the York link when there's also one for Yorkshire. As far as I can see the pages you need for the births might not be there - but you will find the marriage I quoted earlier. Not all the earlier pages are in the right order, so you'll have to be patient.
