Oh my goodness - that's fantastic - we are related then !!

Which child of Felix's do you come down from ?

I don't suppose there's any chance of a photo of the cottage please ?  If not maybe I can see it on Google Street View ?

Kind regards and thanks for replying.

Hello! Yes. Got excited when I realised we must be related. Registered on the site on the strength of your post but can't personal message you until I have done 3 posts evidently. Thanks for your message though. I'm a little chaotic with boxes since moving but will seek out photo of the cottage for you. Am guessing Google earth won't pick it up very clearly as it is now reached up a private road with field around it.  P

Thankyou, I can't wait to see it !

Yes, you need 3 posts before you can send a pm to me. I've sent you one but I don't know if you can access them from me until the 3 posts either.

I have a 1909 map showing Springfield Farm, Langney /Westham which was on the corner of what is now Priory Road and Goldings Road. I can see a building on Google Earth along Priory Lane which may be Springfield Cottage. Can't see the whole property though - just a bit of the roof !!

Ah no, after a bit of research it seems that building is probably 1 and 2 Spring Cottages because they are currently mentioned as being in Priory Lane and are visible on the old maps aswell. However there is another building at the very end of the lane so is that Springfield Cottage ?

Just south of that in 1909 there was Spring Villa which is now Spring Lodge Close.

I'm glad you joined us here after reading my post - you won't regret it - they're a great bunch of people !

Look forward to hearing from you and putting me out of my misery as to where it is exactly.

I thought I had the answer which is why I marked the topic as completed but the library gave me wrong info.

Hi - that must be somewhere else then because on the 1911 census the address was 2 Langney Fort Villas, Wallsend Road.

I know this has closed. But my family owned 1 Fort Villas from very early 1900's until the 1980's I was born there as were my Mother and her brother and sisters 1 lived until 1974 when I emigrated to australia. 1 and 2 Fort Villas were originally built for a private school as some sort of Annexe. However after it was built the school decided it was not safe for children due to proximity of the river. The address was changed to 51 and 53 Pevensey Bay road sometime in the 60's. Hope this helps. I would be interested in any history you have relating to the occupants of both houses
Regards Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes, they are indeed No. 51 and 53.  I eventually found them mentioned on an old map.

I've been in touch with the owner and he told me a lot about the places. Obviously much changed and extended since then but it was nice to hear the history.

I'll dig out my papers and message you.

Do you have any old photo's of the place ?
