This exactly as the incription is engraved. Her maiden name was Graham.

Greetings there

Have searched the NZSG Burial Locator and found a person of same name died 1883 aged 24 years interred in Addington Cemetery, Christchurch.

Only records on Births, Deaths and Marriages Online show deaths in 1939, 1965, 1994, and 2000 of a Margaret Borthwick.

Not the answer you were looking for I guess.

Cheers

Hello...

There is a Margaret BRODRICK who died on the 7 Apr 1863. She was aged 37. Her husband was G.S BRODRICK

Papers Past - Death Notice

-----

Online trees are fairly unreliable but Mundia has a tree for a Margaret GRAHAM, wife of George Septimus BRODRICK. She was born in Cumberland, England in 1825 and died in Dunedin, NZ in 1863

Mundia
http://www.mundia.com/au/Person/3419/4211393

The on-line tree says that her father is Christopher GRAHAM

-----

The following inscription mentions a Christopher GRAHAM.

In Memory of Christopher GRAHAM of Yerningsike who died Feb 19th 1847 aged 76 years.
Also of Mary GRAHAM wife of Christopher GRAHAM who died at Yerningsike 31st March 1863 aged 84 years.
Also Margaret BORTHWICK their daughter who died at New Zealand 7th April 1863 aged 42 years.

The headstone inscription has a different surname and age but her first name and date of death are right. Any chance the transcribing of the headstone is wrong?

Regards
Beg

While I was sleeping.......Kiwis have been very active.
What a lovely surprise to wake up to.  All this information from Janette and BegClonrode.  I can't thank you enough for all your hard work
Just wanted to say that I think the gravestone transcription is 100 percent correct. My transcription and the one on longtown19 both match exactly except for New Zealand being one word (which it is on the stone). I am sure the Margaret Borthwick on the English stone is one and the same as Margaret Brodrick in Dunedin.
The reason for asking about Margaret is to try and provide biographical information about the people buried in Nicholforest Churchyard, which is in Cumbria (Cumberland), right on the border with Scotland.
Again many thanks.
