Nothing to do with tennis but the sister Margaret Stevens Van Vliet married Robert Lily Spragins who had many mentions in Hall of Valor Awards.

I'm wondering whether it might be possible to find anything on the siblings Claude Marsh Butlin and Dorothy Marsh Butlin, both of whom played tennis circa 1905-25. It's not clear where and when they were born and I'm not sure where and when they died either. They played a lot of tennis in Mexico and seem to have settled there at some point.

I believe Dorothy married at some point, but don't know whom, where and when.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Sandra,

Thanks for that information on the Butlins. I don't they are the Butlins in question because the players I meant were winning tournaments around 1909-10. In my original post I said they were active in the years circa 1905-25.

Must have been their father Claude Butlin (17th April 1877 English born)  - the oldest player to have competed in the Davis Cup (50 years 105 days) D 6.05.40

http://www.copadavis.com/en/results/tie/details.aspx?tieId=10003289

Claude Butlin 2-4   1-2   1-2   Ties 3 Debut 1925

Tennis players who have represented the Mexico Davis Cup team in an official Davis Cup match. Mexico have taken part in the competition since 1924.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mexico_Davis_Cup_team_representatives

The birth date given above 17th April 1877 matches London, England, School Admissions and Discharges, 1840-1911 for a Claude Butlin in 1886/1887.
However, there is also a border crossing from mexico to the USA which says Claude Butlin was born Jaffna, Ceylon.  ???

Claude Butlin was active 1925 - 1931 if you read the New York Papers.

Wife: Mabel Wilson Butlin -

Dorothy Marsh, Claude Marsh, and Cecelia Marsh Butlin (1902) were children of Mabel and Claude.

I have some more queries regarding a few female lawn tennis players who took part in American tournaments in the years circa 1910-25. I'm looking for a first name (where unknown), date and place of birth, basic marriage details and a date and place of death.

The following players were active in California:

Mrs E.G.Clute
--

Mrs J.C. Cushing
--

Mrs U.J. Nicholas
--

Mrs Gladys Widdowson
-----

These players were active in Florida:

Mrs J.L.Bremer
--

Mrs Frank Godfrey
