Dead end for John Jones search?
« on: Thursday 20 September 12 14:28 BST (UK) »
HI
Please can anyone advise me how I can progress this ancestry search or if its a dead end i will never be able to uncover.
I am trying to find the birth of My Gt GT grandfather john jones, born, Capel Colmen or Trelech. Two census (filled by his grandfather) say he was born  Carmarthenshire Trelech (1851 and 71) I cant find 1861.  Then he fills in his own census and says he was born pembroskehire, pembrokshire capel colman 1881 through to 1911.
I found his gravestone in Cenarth which said his age at death was 82 in 1929 which would mean he was born 3 years earlier than the censuses.
We cannot work out the year he was born either as the ages don’t match one census to the next, even his marriage certificate is at odds to it all.

I know his father was David from marriage certificate but i cannot find a record of his mother, he lived with his grandfather which was also David.

Am I wasting my time trying find this info or is it possible to do? Obviously with such a common name I'm starting to think its impossible.

Any advice would be greatly received.

Many THanks

Bee

Hi

I would not put much credence on the death records, my grandfather's was 7 years out and is only as good as the informants knowledge,  also the earlier census were rounded up or down by 5 years.
