« on: Thursday 04 October 12 16:55 BST (UK) »
Dear everyone
Please can you help me find John Morgan born in Llanedy at the New Inn about 1850ish.
The year is a guess because we are still trying to find our relatives.

working back..

the free search on the 1911 census shows the David Morgan married to Emily as 28. There is a baptism in Llanedy of a David Morgan in 1883 that looks to match, but he's not on the census with the family

Think the relationships of the Edwards family are a bit mixed up as John Edwards married Anne Morgans june qtr 1899 and she was niece in 1891.

Many thanks for your help I am very grateful. Never thought anyone would find the link but this family looks like them.
I wonder why he was not with his family. Maybe there was to many of them, so they farmed some children out to other members of the family.
Is there any chance you could look for John on earlier census please to find his family members.
Kind regards

you'll need his marriage cert to find out his father's name & occupation as there are 2 John Morgan(s) born Llanedy on the 1851 census

Bankyfynon, Llanedy HO107/2469 folio334 pg 14
Richard Morgan head mar 34 collier b. Llandebie
Ann wife 30 b. Llanon
John son 7 b. Llanedy
William son 1 b. Llanedy

Pant y Dwrfach, Llanedy HO107/2469 folio 362 pg 4
Thomas Hinkins head mar 72 farmer of 25 acres b. Llandeilo
Mary wife 75
Anne dau 36
William son 28
William Davies grandson 15 pauper late labourer's son
Elizabeth Davies granddau 11 pauper
John Davies grandson 8 pauper
John Morgan grandson 7 smith son
all born Llanedy except where noted

The 2 Johns are not the same person as there is a baptism for John, son of Sarah Hinkins & reputed father David Morgan, blacksmith in 1844, so marriage cert needed to sort them out.

Thankyou again for your help, My family will be pleased on finding so much. Now I think we are stuck because it will be hard to find there marriage. We live in Lincolnshire so we are to many miles away.
And not knowing Eliabeth's maiden name it will be even harder.
Thankyou once again

For a marriage I suggest you look at

Dec 1867 Llanelly 11a, 948a.

Shows a John Morgan and Elizabeth Jones on same page. Llanedi is in Llanelly district.

Possible parents of John Morgan - David Morgan (collier) and Sarah. Baptised in Llanedi 1844, but several possible birth records in 1843 Llanelly district.

Regards,

Rhosgoch.

sorry, don't follow your reasoning that being in Lincolnshire makes you too far away to find their marriage. I'm further away than you are, but FreeBmd can find the refs for you.

To be sure of Elizabeth's maiden name, you could get a birth cert for one of the children. Go for one of the less common names, like this one

Samuel Morgans june qtr 1868 Llanelly vol 11a pg 713

There's also a page with a John Morgan & Elizabeth Jones on it in june qtr 1866 vol 11a pg 902. It might be a case of ordering from the local registrars in Carmarthen and asking them to check that the groom is a publican.

This is a baptism that's a possible

Just as an aside the New Inn is still standing in Llanedi but has been a private house for some years. It is about 100 yards from Tafarn y Deri heading towards Ammanford.

Hello Naffii Girl.

I have ancestral connections with Maes y Berllan, Llanedi by way of my 3G grandparents John and Rachel Rees.

Following John's death in 1862 Rachel continued at reside at the house until her death in 1882.
Her son John took over at Maes y Berllan until his death in 1902. I believe he married Ann Morgan.

Would be interested in knowing your connection to the property.

Kind regards

Richard
