Try looking at public member trees on ancestry
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/I don't think you have to register to do this. If you find his name in a tree you can contact the tree owner via the website.
Can you post JUST the year of birth of the son, then perhaps we can guesstimate the year of birth of the father.
I also suggest you go to your first post, click the 'modify' button and change the title to something like 'Colvin in Co Offaly 1890s' then people will see what the topic really is.
