Welcome to rootschat! Lots of knowledgeable & helpful people here.

Is Anthony Calvin the father or son? If he died in Australia, what details were on his death certificate? What makes you think the remains were transported back to Ireland? You say one of them was born in Croghan, Co Offaly & moved to Australia ca 1960 & died ca 1970.

Don't forget, you can't mention names of living [or possibly living people on this site].  When you have made 3 posts, other people on rootschat can send you a private message - pm - in which you can name living people [you will then also be able to pm them via the green scroll under their names].

No, don't know the area - my ancestors are from different parts of Ireland.

It's worth looking at the ifhf site
http://www.rootsireland.ie/

You have to register first, then you can search the indexes. They recently changed the charging system. It is fairly cheap to view an index but then you have to pay more to see the detail. Not sure if I have any credits left otherwise I'd look for Anthony Colvin born ca .

Try looking at public member trees on ancestry
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/
I don't think you have to register to do this. If you find his name in a tree you can contact the tree owner via the website.

Can you post JUST the year of birth of the son, then perhaps we can guesstimate the year of birth of the father.

I also suggest you go to your first post, click the 'modify' button and change the title to something like 'Colvin in Co Offaly 1890s' then people will see what the topic really is.

There's a marriage in 1923 in Donegal of an Anthony Colvin. Once you have made another post I can pm you with the details.

PS Does the son know his mother's name?

PPS Have a look at this rootschat post
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,156633.10.html
It mentions an email address of someone who maintains a cemetery list for Croghan.

I think it is important to try to find his actual date of death & then a death certificate. The death registration may say where he was going to be buried.
