A bit of a quandary here
« on: Thursday 11 October 12 23:34 BST (UK) »
Not sure where to go for info.
My father John William Vaughan born 1905 Pontefract W.Yorkshire, joined the Household Cavalry (the Blues) in about 1922 (assuming he would have to be 17 years old) I have no service number for him as my mother destroyed most info after Dad died  ??? he (I think) bought himself out sometime prior to 1938 (my birth) from memory after his discharge he was valet to the Duke of Roxburough..was about this time he met my mother ?? on my birth cert he is listed as insurance agent ?? and once again according to my recall of events the duke did not allow married staff  ??? He was then called up at the begining of WW2 and drafted into the tank corp where he  was spotted by his ex commanding officer (Henry Able Smith) who had him transferred back to the Royal Horse Guards, he served in Holland and Germany..am having problems with this as do not know his army service number..does anyone know how I can obtain this.  Realize there is not a lot info to go on..and it makes it rather more difficult as I am in Australia (he died here in 1964)
Have dowloaded the forms from the MOD but it is all rather complicated..can anyone give me any pointers pls.
Regards Patvp

You may be lucky and find that the Household Cavalry Museum have a copy of his service record.
