George Sellers of Milford.
« on: Monday 15 October 12 20:58 BST (UK) »
Hi.

I'm looking for baptism and marriage records for a George Sellers who was born around 1813 in Milford. I know his wife's name is Sarah and according to BMD they were hitched in 1837. It would be good to get a maiden name for her and any other information available. Again according to BMD her surname will either be Sims or Austin.

Many thanks.

That's been really useful, thank you. I'm a bit flummoxed by the marriage being all the way over in Wirksworth though!

One question. Does the 1851 Census for George Sellers say what the relationship is for Harriot and Benjamin Brown to the head of the household? Lodgers?

Many thanks again

Nicola

Hi Nicola, it does not show any relationship on the 1851, but this marriage possibility looks good:-

Harriott SELLORS ( To on same page ) Samuel Brown Dec qtr 1841 Belper 19 363

Same marriage on Family Search:-

Samuel Brown to Harriett SELLORS 31st October 1841 Crich, Derbyshire

Grooms Father Benjamin
Brides Father George Sellors

Hi,

Also on the Wirksworth site, is the marriage entry for Sarah Sims:-

26.11.1837  Sarah Sims (Cromford) cotton spinner to George Sellers. Father Joseph Sims Shoemaker.

This I think is confirmation you have the correct marriage, also this is an indication that George and Sarah
were resident in Cromford at the time of their marriage not that they were born there.

Suggest they would have been working for Arkwright, the housing they are living in 1841 belong to the
Strutt family for whom they would have been working at theit Milford Mills. All housing still standing.

Joseph Simms = Martha Simms 28.11.1812 Duffield Parish Church, Derbyshire, both were single.   At this date this was the only church near to Milford for Marriages.

Thank you Carol and Spendlove for the Wirksworth entry.

Spendlove, is the Martha Sims you mentioned her maiden name? I'm wondering due to her marrying a Sims. Oh and the housing that you mentioned that is still there... whereabouts is it? I've been to Cromford Mill before and would love to visit again at some point. It would give me a good excuse to go!

Regards

Nicola

Sorry keyboard86, missed your earlier post.

It looks as though you've found the relationship and that Harriet was George and Elizabeth Sellers' widowed daughter. Thank you!
