Hi,
Can anybody shed any light onto what happened to this family after 1881.
Barnabas Pearson Shipley, born 1846 in Seaham, son of George Shipley and Martha Pearson.
Married Margaret Bainbridge in Sunderland during the September quarter of 1869
Margaret had been born in Monkwearmouth around 1850, daughter James Bainbridge and Mary Reay.
The couple can be easily found on the 1871 census and 1881 census living in Monkwearmouth with their children.
The couple had Mary, born in 1870, Hannah, born in 1871, Martha, born in 1873 died 1875, Jane Ann, born in 1875, Margaret, born in 1877, Matthew, born in 1879, Barnabas, born in 1882 and James Bainbridge, born in 1886.
Margaret Shipley died during the December quarter of 1887, age given as 38 years.
Their son, Barnabas, can be found, age 8 years, on the 1891 census living (I think), in the Sunderland Orphanage, but their is no sign of any of his siblings or father.
Daughter, Jane Ann, married George Ross Oxley during the September quarter of 1894, but, again, no sign of her in 1891.
Barnabas Pearson Shipley did not die until the June quarter of 1916 in Sunderland, so where was he??
Any help would be much appreciated!
Sue
