Melody & McGuinness family of New Inn
« on: Saturday 27 October 12 13:21 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Melody family and McGuinness family from New Inn. My great grandmother Bridget Melody was born in New Inn in 1864 daughter of Michael Melody & Dorothy McGuinness.
Dorothy was the daughter of John Guinnessy & Bridget Murray.
I would love to know the parents of Michael Melody.

I also would like to know if there is a history written about the area of New Inn or parts close by around the 1830-1860 time frame.

Thank you for any help!

Hi there,

Our civil registration began in 1864 and given that Bridget was born in 1864 I would presume that her parents were married before then which would mean that there will not be a civil marriage cert for Michael and Dorothy (Dolly).

I had a quick look at the free index on ifhf and it shows 12 children as being baptised to Michael and Dorothy but no marriage for them that I can see.

Is this your blog ?

AMAZING pics if so !!!

I see there is speculation that Michael's father was called John as there was a John Melody listed on the Tithe Applotments for 1826 and also Michael named his first son John.

There is mention of Bridget's brother Michael and his wife Catherine - I presume this is them

This is Catherine and her sister in 1901

There is a mention herre of a Christina Melody (nee Cunningham) from New Inn passed away 2010, wondering might she have marrried a descendent

I'm not sure if you have seen this census or not and I'm not 100% sure if it's the correct area but MIGHT this be Dolly ?

Thank you! I do have them on the censuses - I am so grateful that they are out there!
I didn't know about Christina Melody - I will have to check that out.
And yes that is my blog - I don't write too often but sometimes.

Thank you for taking the time to help me!

John and Michael Melody (Melledy) on Griffiths Valuation

http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/galway/grange.htm

I had another check of the free index on ifhf and Michael and Dorothy's marriage is on it - Dorothy's surname was mistranscribed - have you purchased this church transcription yet ?

It most likely won't have their father's names on it though, as church marriage records from this pre 1864 perios rarely did

I think a family member does have the record and it did not have Michael's parents names.
I wonder if John Melody was Michael's brother?
I have thought that Michael Melody's father was John from an early record and I can't think of what it was called off the top of my head but it listed a John Melody in New Inn.

I have wanted to get Michael Melody's death record as I don't have that yet - he died in 1894 and also his wife's Dorothy who died in 1904. Do you know the best way to get those records?
