Fewell
« on: Sunday 04 July 04 23:44 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Can anyone help me with this one.
I am back as far as John Fewell who married Elizabeth Lanham 1768 in Great Canfield.
The trouble is John does not appear to have been born in Great Canfield, so I am having to look elsewhere.
I have found a Thomas Fuel who married Elizabeth Judd 20 July 1735, and their children were: William b 17 April 1740, Thomas b 17 April 1740, and John b 3 Oct 1742 all in Takeley.
Now there was also a Thomas who married Sarah Bacon in Great Canfield, of which I can't find a birth for Thomas.
So I am wondering if John and Thomas are brothers, and if they are the children of Thomas Fuel and Elizabeth Judd.
Does anybody have any information about either Thomas and Elizabeth Judd, or Thomas and Sarah Bacon.
Thanks
Sue

Hi Susie,
With regard to the three Takeley Fuel baptisms, William 17 Apr 1740, Thomas 17 Apr 1740 and John 3 Oct 1742, are these from Parish Registers or elsewhere?   I was browsing the Takeley transcripts yesterday, I found a few but not the three above that you have.  ???
Concentrating currently on:
Essex: Card, Harris, Stowell, Theobald/Tibbles & Turner.
Norfolk: Beale, Cork & Dalton.
Yorkshire: Oswald Sturdy birth/baptism c1708, Oswald where the devil are you?

Hi Findem
Sorry I didn't reply before.  This one slipped through the net and I didn't get notification I had a reply. Just browsing and found it.

The Three Fewel birth's were down as Jewel in the Takeley transcripts.  I sent a message and asked if these could possibly be Fewel and they replied that they could be, because they had trouble deciding what was a J and what was an F.  On the marriage of their parents William was actually written as Fuell.

So I do think they are Fewel/Fuell etc.

Hi Sue,
Thanks for for the info on those three baptisms.

I didn't get notification of your reply either  ???

I've looked in my profile and there appears to be a contradiction, I wonder if it was caused by the changeover to the new look of the board?  I'll get in touch with the Moderator tomorow when I have time.

Thomas FEWELL was my 6x gr grandfather he married Sarah Bacon  Aug 17th 1777 in Great Canfield.

Hi Annmarie
Thanks for your reply.  Can you tell me what Mary's last name was?  And did they have any other children?

Hi Sue
Sorry I have no idea of Mary's surname.
Other children were:

Sarah baptised Feb 11 1748/9 Little Canfield
William Feb 6 1756 Little Canfield
Thomas Feb 10 1760 Little Canfield

The family must have moved about as I did not find anymore children or the burials for either of the parents.
