bap 1830 Suzanne ??? in Oxford
« on: Sunday 28 October 12 15:09 GMT (UK) »
I have a copy of the Will of John LANHAM who died in 1835.  I'm trying to work out which particular John Lanham it was who died and I'm hoping the parentage of a grandchild mentioned in the document will shed some light.

The child is named Susanna.  Her father was William.  She was apparently born 21 Sep 1830, I'm assuming in one of the Oxford city parishes.  I'm having trouble with the writing and can't decipher the surname, I was going to attach the name but can't work out how ???.

Would someone be able to check the various city parishes to see if they could come up with a likely candidate?

Hello :)

I have the OxFHS  transcriptions of the Oxford city PRs.  For the 1830s, there are close to 20 sets of records spread over 4 CDs and they are all indexed by surname only, so searching for a first name is quite laborious with or without the father’s name.  Also, she could have been baptised at any time from 1830 onwards  – and you’re not certain that she lived in the city itself :-\

Do you have any more details at all to help narrow the search?  Have you tried the ‘Deciphering and Recognition’ board for help with the unclear writing?

Regards,
Carol

Thanks Carole, I've just posted on the D&R board, when I tried yesterday I couldn't upload any images but I seem to have managed today.

best wishes
Jane :-)

Consensus seems to be that Susanna's surname was MASTERS so I'd appreciate it if comeone could see if she was bap in any of the Oxford city parishes.  DoB 21 Sep 1830, father William.

best wishes
Jane :-)

Hi Jane

I have an index to Oxford city baptisms 1800 -1837,  there was no Susanne (or variations) Masters baptsed in the city in that time,  however having read your other thread you maight like this from St Martins

1836 May 15th Richard Haynes Grinsted son of Richard Haynes & Sarah,  grocer
