Wedding date 1896 St Michaels Byker
« on: Tuesday 30 October 12 15:46 GMT (UK) »

Hello

I'm looking to find the date of a wedding in spring 1896

Henry Craggs m. Isabella Batey,  St Michaels with St Lawrence, Byker; JFM 1896

Does anyone have index/microfiche of these church records - otherwise needs a trip to T&W Archives one day.

Thanks
Booth - Hulme, Manchester & Wallsend
Craggs - Bishop Auckland, Darlington & Byker
Hutchins & Lewins- Sunderland
Miller, Allan & Brunton - Walker & Byker
Bagnall - Watermen of the Ouseburn

I'm off to the archives at Woodhorn tomorrow so I've added it to my list

That's very kind of you thanks, Christine

I'll be very interested in the stated profession of Henry Craggs as on his army discharge the only comment was 'a fine baker' and in 1891 he was a baker's errand boy.  I'm guessing he'll be down as a baker...

Fantastic.  Thanks Christine.
Hope you had an enjoyable, successful day at Woodhorn.

This means a lot to me - I just last weekend found newspaper articles in the Newcastle Journal reporting how at the age of 10 Isabella Batey had witnessed her blind mother receiving fatal injuries from a runaway horse in Newcastle - so it's good to have some information on a happier day in her life.

Did you notice if they both signed their names or just made their marks?

Thanks again.

Sorry, I usually mention that but overlooked it.

All of them signed including both witnesses though the Craggs signatures seemed more practiced and fluent than the other two.
