Thanks for the response Purley. I just happened to check back on the site so pardon the delay in responding. My ancestor Nathaniel Bate served with the 66th. for 22yrs. He was a member of the British Garrison on St. Helena, and from there went on to Quebec to serve at the Citadel. While there he and his wife bore the first British child, (Nathaniel), born at the Citadel in 1827. From there he went on to serve at Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario, where he was the Adjutant of the Fort. While there he and his wife again gave birth to the first child born at Fort Henry, that child was Christened "Fort Henry Bate", his birth was quite a big deal at the Fort, and the baby was given a sum of money donated by the troops at the Fort. Following his discharge from the regular Army Nathaniel helped to organize the 2nd. Frontenac Militia to help defend Kingston during the Canadian Rebellion of 1837-38. I know that in 1837 he filed for a Crown Land Grant of 300 acres and signed the application as Nathaniel Bate, Innkeeper, Stuartsville. At this point I lose track of him and have been unable to find any additional information about his very interesting life, or that of the child, "Fort Henry Bate".
