Hi Ian,

I'm going to hazard an educated guess. In 1871 a William Kelsey from Haxey Lincs was living in Clarborough Notts. I believe in 1881 he was in the same household as your Eliza?

William Kelsey married Emma Midgeley 17/12/1872 at Blyth. Torworth is/was part of Blyth parish.

Thanks Heather,

I had some of that information, but still looking for confirmation of Eliza's mother (I am sure that it was Emma Midgley) and her date of birth.  I didn't know that there was a second child, but that does open a new light on why Emma died so young, Must have been in child-birth  :'(

Do you have the details of William Kelsey in Clarborough please?  That is also new to me.  I was aware that there was a William Kelsey in Retford, a physician and surgeon, also from Haxey and of approximately the right age, but the information just did not make sense for the William I was interested in.  Yes, 'my' William was indeed back at his family home in Haxey in 1881, with his daughter Eliza.

Thanks Heather, in that case still trying to find him prior to the 1881 Census.

Although the information on the (Dr) William Kelsey in Retford doesn't seem to make sense there is a very slight possibilty it could be him.  Hopefully fresh information will come to light.  Will the real William Kelsey please step forward ;-)
