McKenna/Fox
« on: Monday 05 November 12 12:06 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find a trace of my husband's grt grandparents - Henry McKenna or McKenny (born 1870 in Melrose, Roxburghshire) who married a Charlotte Fox born 1869 in England.  I have them on their daughter Louisa's mariage certificate and in the 1901 census living in Dunbar, but on no other census earlier or later.

The reason this is in East Lothian is because they were living in Dunbar in the 1901 census.

Thanks!

Hi crazycaz

From ev's info earlier, the surname seemed to show as McKenny at some point.

There is this 1901 census entry showing:

Henry Mckenny 30, Labourer (masons) b. Melrose, Roxboughshire
Charlotte Mckenny 31 b. England
Janet Mckenny 9
Mary Mckenny 7
Wilhelmina Mckenny 5
Janet Mckenny 1

Address: 13 Wrikers Court, Dunbar East Lothian

There is a Louisa McKenny showing as born in 1901 Dunbar on Scotlands People, likely just after the above census was taken? You would need to check the image to confirm parents' details on SP.

Just adding the 1901 census entry from the other post here for background www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,620006.0.html

Saw this https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NJND-NXV and wondered whether it was daughter Mary's christening entry.

I don't think Henry and Charlotte married until 1900 in Dunbar, East Lothian. There is a marriage for a couple with those names (Henry as McKenny) in Dunbar that year. The marriage cert is available to view online and would let you work with confidence on their family lines hopefully.

Thank you for this Monica.  On the christening, it looks like an Italian family!!  Maria's birth fits in with Mary on the 1901 census which I have printed off.

I will look for a Charlotta Fox on ancestry and on Scotland's people for the marriage.

thanks again!

Carole

Carole, I wondered whether the family may have been Roman Catholic? Names sound like they have been latinised!
