Need help to decipher Ireland place names for abt 1830
« on: Wednesday 07 November 12 20:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm new here and looking for help to identify the place of birth of my 4th great grandfather Patrick Dunleavy who was born in Ireland about 1831 and his wife Bridget who was born in Ireland about 1832.  By 1861, they were both living in Newcastle Upon Tyne in England.  The following is a capture from an 1861 census but I can't figure out what their places of birth read as.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

http://www.thecore.com/seanruad  is a good site to search for townland names - there is a Griggins in Galway.

Do you have Bridget's maiden name from a child's birth certificate?

I don't know her maiden name unfortunately.  I only know that her name was Bridget from the census record.

Thank you, Griggins is the only place that I have found on google maps that could be close.  I'll check out the site you have linked.

Hmm, Mounthenry is a new one to look at.  i wonder though, if Patrick was from Griggins and Bridget from Mounthenry, as they seem pretty far away from each other and especially so in in about 1830.

Thanks all for the responses so far.

Hello again,

if I have the right family, Bridget and Patrick jnr are together in 1871. She is married but no Patrick snr.
Do you have them in 1881?
