Kilnamanaghmore
« on: Friday 09 November 12 17:20 GMT (UK) »
In 1905 my grandparents Sarah Anne Byrne and Moses Hatton were married in the Roman Catholic Church in Barendarrig. In total they had ten children; the first six had their place of birth returned as Kilnamanaghmore Co Wicklow.
The 1911 Census shows Sarah Anne and Moses Hatt E n living with their first three children including my mother Sarah then aged 2 at House No 3 Kilnamanagh More Glenealy Wicklow.
Any help in locating the exact area this house might be or have been would be really appreciated as I have been down in the Glenealy area a number of times now since August without success.
Many Thanks,
 John.

The townland of Kilnamanagh More consists of about 460 acres and is located to the south of Glenealy - approx. 5km by road.

see : Glenealy to Kilnamanagh More  (google map)

The number on the census is a site number assigned by the enumerator based on the order he visited the houses in the area, so not any help in determining a more precise location.

If ancestors of this family were at the location at the time of Griffth's then you may be able to use Valuation maps to establish more details.

Here's the townland on the 1st Edition OSI maps - c1837

   Kilnamanagh More

Townland border is shown in red. To see the area on the modern OSI map, you can switch to a current or 'ortho' (Satellite) view using the options to the right of screen. Handy for finding your way there...

see : Kilnamanaghmore

this entry is dated 5tth April 1854.

You could "follow" these ten properties from Griffith, through the Revaluation Books (office in the Irish Life Centre). You can then see who's in each one in 1905 or so.

(as you talk about visiting Glenealy several times, I presume you're not too far from Dublin.)

Thank you both for your help.
I caused my own problems in both my questions and my searches down there. In all cases on any certs I have acquired to date the males in both families are returned as Farm labourers’  so I was looking for a terrace of 7/8 houses not realizing they were detached properties covering such a huge area so thanks to you both I will now broaden my search.
Although my grandfather was local and (possibly) christened in the parish church of Wicklow (Town) He did move around but in a fairly tight circle. He enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery from the Barndarrig area, the same place from where he was married. In the 1901 Census he is returned from Ballard Lower and on his marriage cert his address is given as Ballycapple.
My Gran was living in Kilcandra the night of the 1901 census and is returned from the same address on her marriage cert.
As I said their first 6 children wee born in the Kilnamanagh More area and all show my Grandfather as a Labourer. I have been unable to find birth records for their next 2 children but the place of birth for the last 2 is returned as Tigroney Avoca and Moses is returned as a ‘Milesman’ for the GS Railway.
One of the landlords whose name appears on both the census’, Griffiths and the Royal Garrison Artillery list is Acton, it will be interesting to see if those who ‘volunteered’ for service with Mr Acton from the Barndarrig area were part of a ‘Pals Battalion’ and what service if any they saw.
Yes Eadoin, Dublin ‘Northside’ now and have been for the past 42 years but Dun Laoghaire originally.
