The Best Genealogy Subscription Site?
« on: Sunday 11 November 12 09:59 GMT (UK) »
Advice, please, from all you Geny-experts: I have decided to bite the bullet and cough up to subscribe to one of the Genealogy Sites that constantly present themselves in any search for material. I am particularly interested in pre-1800, England & Scotland. I'm probably more in favour of a periodic subscription rather than credits for snippets. I'm not necessarily interested in downloading images of originals, either.

Which do you consider to be the most worth while, all embracing and effective source of on-line information, please?

Mike.

I have moved this to the census and resource board.  If you look at other posts on there you will see many about this question.

Hi Mike

Familysearch (free) has indexes for Church of Scotland Parish Registers, Scotlandspeople a pay-per-view site is the only online source for images.

For England you need to check which site actually has material for areas of interest to you, some counties are on Findmypast, others on Ancestry but many are simply not online.

Your best bet would be to try the 14 day free trial that both Ancestry & findmypast have and see if they are of any use.
