KING and POLLOCK Macosquin
« on: Wednesday 14 November 12 14:12 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for the marriage (if they were married ?) of David King and Sara Pollock. They had a daughter Mary E born at Ballyvennox on 3rd February 1864 and registered in Aghadowey.
I have found this birth. Mary went to America c1884 and on her marriage cert 1899 said her father was David King and her mother was Sara Pollock Walton. On census Mary also said she was born in Scotland and that her parents were born in Scotland but this is incorrect. I cannot find a marriage for Sara to David nor any relevent deaths ie David's. Nor can I find a marriage for Sara to a Walton. Nor can I find Mary's emigration details......I'm not doing too well!! Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Doire.

As far as I know, David King and Sarah Pollock were not married.

Thomas King of Ballyvennox (died 20 Dec.1866) had a son David King born 1831 who might be Mary's father.

Some of the Pollocks from the area went to Scotland- have you tried searching for Walton marriage there?

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I am not surprised that Sara was not married to David King but can you elaborate on why you think they were not married? Another point is that Mary got married under the name of Walton. Again I don't know if there was a marriage between Sara and ? Walton. I have looked in Scotland as far as I can but I don't have
access to Scotlands People. I have been searching LDS's records of emigrants for 1884 from Scotland/Ireland but it takes forever! This Sara is (I think) the mother of my gt grandmother Sarah Margaret Pollock whose birth in 1870 Macosquin I have been looking for now for many years. My gt grandmother's son went to America to his uncle who was Mary's husband and so the only relationship she could be is a half sister to Mary but her father was Charles Pollock, and once again I can find no marriage between Sara and Charles....

Mary was illegitimate- her birth registered by mother Sara Pollock but since father's details included he must have gone with her to register the birth.

Does Mary's marriage give her as single? (wondering if she m.1 Walton)

David King, son of Thomas, who is the man I suspect was Mary's father died in Greenock in 1915 and was living there at least by 1901.

Will do a bit more digging on Pollocks and post more details if and when I find them.

On Mary's marriage cert she says her mother is Sara (without an H) Pollock Walton so therefore I think it was probably Sara who married a Walton. .....and possibly in Scotland. It had to be before 1889 when Mary married using that the name Walton. Thank you for your help.
