Ernest John Fancy (COMPLETED)
« on: Wednesday 14 November 12 21:37 GMT (UK) »
Am seeking relatives of the above who served in the RAF during WW2 as an Air Gunner at RAF Wickenby in 626 Squadron.

Ernest was the son of Willie George and Edith Mary Fancy of Upton Poole.

He died 25.04.44 near Colchester in a Lancaster bomber crash.

He is buried at Lytchett Minster churchyard Poole.

His RAF Service no. is 1608414

We are researching the crash and will be erecting a memorial to the seven men that died in the aircraft next year. Ideally we would like to find a relative who has a photo and / or some background information about him.

We have found some distant relatives but they are unable to find any photographs.

Any help / advise welcomed. Thanks.

Not sure if this will be any help or not. William George Fancy was married to Edith Mary Hart, and they had at least six children; William F b. Sept 1912;Winifred M b,Mar 1915;Richard J b.Sept 1916;Kathleen R b.Mar 1920;Ernest J b.Jun 1922 and Elsie B b.Dec 1924. Winifred died shortly after birth. In 1937 William F married Nancy Baker, and in 1939 Kathleen married Donald Lithgow.
They were all born/married in Poole, so I guess it is quite likely that some of their decendants are still in the area.
regards.

Or contact the paper/write to the editor, and ask if they want to run a little story.   A junior reported would be glad of it I should think.

I managed to get an article published in the Bournemouth Echo and soon after I had three respondents, two of these were relations. I've got my fingers crossed that these will find a photo for me. I have also learnt some information that I didn't know about the airman and this will be useful for next year when we display our presentation about the Lancaster crew at next years memorial unveiling ceremony.
