Wiredrawing in the Widnes area
« on: Tuesday 31 May 05 10:38 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have several people in  the "tree" who were wiredrawers or wirecarriers around 1840/1850 in the Widnes area (Ditton/Appleton). Does anyone know what industries existed at that time in that area, and what might be involved in what I assume would be a physical rather than mechanised activity?

many thanks,

Cholton

Wiredrawer - "maker of wire from thicker metals" according to my dictionary of occupations.   Have a look at old directories to see what industries there were.  Genuki will have some online.
