John Thompstone a Gawsworth miller NOW COMPLETED
« on: Monday 19 November 12 16:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have established a connection with John Thompstone of Gawsworth, Cheshire. In c1989 a book was published by Ann Laver(nee Thompstone) titled - "John Thompstone of Gawsworth Mill, 1742-1808 : his descendants and ancestors : a history of the Thompstone family from 1690."

The book appears on Amazon but is out of print and I have been unable to find a purchaseable copy anywhere. Cheshire CRO apparently do have a copy in their reference library.

Does anyone know of anywhere where I might obtain my own copy?

Thanks
Brian

You could try Bob Dobson> landypublishing[-- at --]yahoo.co.uk< He specialses in Lancs and Cheshire books. I don't think that title  is on his latest downloadable list but he might be able to help you.

Hi Brian,

If you aren't able to locate a copy to purchase you may be able to get one through the inter library loan service to your local library.

I have a distant Thompstone connection by marriage, Anne Emmot Thompstone married Henry Beckett in 1866 in Manchester.  The Beckett's were a Cheshire family - one of the lines emigrated to Canada and Henry travelled back from Canada for the marriage.  They lived in Canada for the remainder of their lives.

Thaks for info.

I have been in touch with the Librarian at the FHS of Cheshire and she was most helpful. Although the FHS doesn't have a copy she has tracked one down in Macclesfield library so I shall be off there to view in the next few days.

I am Ann Laver the author of John Thompstone of Gawsworth Mill.

I do still have some copies available.

Family Search have recently digitised the original copy but it is still not on their website.

Ann, I would love to purchase a copy from you if you have any left. I have recently discovered that John Thompstone is my 6x gt grandfather.
Thanks
Irene

Dear Irene,

Can you give me brief details of where you join? It will help me to see if it is worth you buying a copy.
