Right, some good ideas here.
I've been digging around as far as the ROSE family is concerned. The only baptism I can find for Jane ROSE is 31/12/1806 (I had put this as her birth date on my data base) but she was
born 1/1/1799. This is on familysearch & I've checked it against the transcript. She was the daughter of Richard & Hannah ROSE, all their children being born in Dorking. The only clue I have for her DOB is from the 1851 census which suggests 1805 but I know this can be wrong. I was hoping to find a burial record for her in 1863 with her age (an earlier posting here on Rootschat) but no luck
Barry, thank you for your input. That William Bravery belongs to another family. The familysearch entry for Jane Bravery's baptism would have come from their film of the Dorking pr's so fairly sure that is the correct wording.
Claire, yes, I have that information about William's misdemeanour but I hadn't put it into the context of this puzzle, so something to look into.
John, as this family is not in my direct line, I would hesitate about getting the cert. As William was about 39 at his marriage in 1823 there's definately room for another marriage but I've never found one but I could explore that possibility again! Nothing on the marriage entry about status but I'll look again.
Liz, I had thought of the vicar getting muddled with these names when he recorded this baptism (I know I have doing this research) I'm liking the suggestions put forward that Jane Bravery nee Rose had a child before she married William. Especially this Caroline ROSE that Liz found.
I'm drilling down on this ROSE family at the moment but keep your ideas & any new finds coming
