Hi Dean

The only "possible" shipping record I can see is arriving 1854 - maybe he got his dates confused when he gave the immigration date as 1849 in 1900

Michael Ackermann
Arrival 15th May 1854
Age 23 (abt. 1831)
Port of departure Bremen Germany
Port of arrival Philadelphia
Ship name: Philadelphia
Last residence and birth place: Germany
On the same list: Christine Ackermann age 19 (could she be his sister or previous wife?)
Occupation for both: Wool Dresser

Jool
Robbins - Wolverhampton.
Spooner - Monmouthshire & Wolverhampton.
Warner & Loundes - Dudley/West Bromwich.
Dod(g)son - Heysham/Liverpool/Wolverhampton

Thank you for your reply about Michael ackermann, I forgot to mention his fathers name which I just found just last night on his marriage record in Pittsburgh.
The fathers name was Adam Ackermann.
I will save the information of yours.
It might make sense that an older sister was traveling with him, after all he was only sixteen years of age.

Whoa, in refernce to last posted message, i was still stuck in the year 1849 when you clearly said boat arrived in 1854.
I understand your message completely, I'm not confused1

The 1880 census lists place of birth of the mother & father of each person on the census.  Michael's parents are both noted as being born in Hesse Darmstadt, this may help you trace Adam Ackermann back in Germany.

You said Michael died in 1900, so when the 1900 census was taken he may have been a sick man and his memory may not have been serving him well - could explain why the dates don't match up.
