Thomas Gurr Removal order from Pleyden
« on: Tuesday 04 December 12 16:56 GMT (UK) »
http://I have  a Thomas Gurr born in Peasemarsh 1801 married to Ann (1841 & 1851 Censuses) and I am trying to establish whether this is the same Thomas Gurr mentioned in a removal order of 1821. Any help with this or with locating marriage and birth records would be very much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the Sussex forum,

The likely marriage could be to Ann Weeks 30 Apr 1826 in Battle (Witnesses William Ticehurst) Both of the Parish.
Where do Thomas and Ann appear in the 1841 census?

Regards
Sean

Just looking at the removal order from Playden to Peasmarsh Nov 13 1821. There is a removal order for a Joseph Gurr also from Playden to Peasmarsh a few months before that on Jun 12 1821, could he be a brother?

The baptism of Thomas Gurr was on 5th Oct 1800 in Peasmarsh St Peter & St Paul; parents William & Elizabeth.

Sean,
Thankyou for replying. I am staggered at how quickly I got a response and for my first ever posting!
I have Thomas Gurr, his wife and 2 children Alfred and Thomas William  living in the parish of Rye Foreign, and in Lea Farm, Rye in the 1841 & 1851 censuses respectively. The birth record you found seems correct and certainly fits with names.

I haven't actually had sight of the removal order just knew of its existance. Does it have any detail that would help me? Your mention of a Joseph as a possible sibling could be a clue.

One more thing I wonder if you could let me know your sources as I am trying to be thorough and not fall into the trap of running up the wrong branches of the tree!

The marriage record is from the 'Sussex Marriage Index'.
The baptism is from a transcription on the 'Sussex Family History Group Database'. (Well worth the annual cost of £12 or so in order to access many baptisms and burials).
The removal order had no further information.

There are quite a few Gurr families so it might need some more information before you can be certain of joining the two Thomas Gurrs you have found.
