1901 Census Richard Dawson Boyd
« on: Friday 07 December 12 19:01 GMT (UK) »
According to his sister's will of 1884, Richard Dawson Boyd lived in Cloughfern. I have tried to find Richard in 1901 (if he is still alive) but don't find a Cloughfern. Is there another place that Cloughfern would be listed under? Or does someone have access to the 1891 census when it is more likely Richard is still alive?
Thanks for any help.  Richard's father is also Richard Dawson Boyd but he is not likely to be alive in 1901.

The 1891 census does not survive.

Richard Dawson Boyd died before 1901 which is why you could not find him there. "Administration of the estate of Richard Dawson Boyd late of Cloughfern Whiteabbey County Antrim Retired Farmer who died 18 August 1896 granted at Belfast to Sarah E. Smyth of Ballyhenry County Antrim (Wife of Hugh Smyth) the Daughter." See www.proni.gov.uk

You would also have found his death in the civil registration index if you had checked-

Hi Aghadowey,
Thank you for this death date. It is helpful to the cause. However, this death looks like it was Richard Dawson Boyd Senior who died in 1896, as it says that administration was granted to Sarah E. Smyth, the daughter. I was looking for Richard Dawson Boyd, Jr. in 1901. I will look again under Whiteabbey.
So if both Sr. and Jr. were living in Cloughfern, sounds like it was the family home and that might be where I would find the births of the siblings.
As for familysearch, I did search for Richard Dawson Boyd there, and he did not come up for some strange reason.
Thanks again.

I don't know. The only date of birth I have is for his sister Sarah Elizabeth which was Jan 1862.

I have found a Richard Dawson Boyd who died in 1886. Maybe it is him, born 1853. Could be one reason Sarah administered Richard Dawson Boyd, Sr. affairs as Margaret was deceased in 1884, maybe son Richard in 1886, and I don't know about Mary Jane who was probably not married in 1884 as still under Boyd name.

That is Sarah Smyth on the 1901 as her husband Hugh died in 1898 and those are the names of her children.
As for Richard Dawson Boyd who died in 1886, that is likely Margaret's brother, even though I don't have his
date of birth.
Thanks
