BMD's Mauritius (Ionian Isles/Gibraltar)

John o'Brien served with the 5th foot fuseliers in the Ionian Islanhds, Gibraltar and Mauritius.  He had at least one son (James b 1852 in Mauritius - mother Ellen) but I wonder how I can get hold of birth certificates for James and any sibs but, more importantly info on who John married and where?
John was born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1820 and joined up in 1837 or 1839
