1885 WILSON deaths at Guildford

John Wilson & Mary Clezie or Clazie were born 1809 in the Scottish Borders.  They were rebuked by their church congregation for having a clandestine marriage, then left Scotland and lived the rest of their lives in Surrey:

1841, 1851, 1861 censuses, Stoke d’Abernon
1871 census, location unclear
1881 census, Little House Farm, Stringers Common, Worplesdon

John & Mary both died at Guildford, 1885.  Searching for:
- dates of death
- name of the cemetery
- 1871 census location
- names of children, if any.

A cousin once had a photo of their cemetery headstone - lost it!  A replacement photo, or transcription, would be wonderful.  Mary was a daughter of my 4x-great-grandparents.

They were in Daisy Cottage in Merrow which is on the outskirts of Guildford in 1871
No children with them on that census

Did they have any children in 1841/51?

You would have to buy copies of their death certs to get their actual dates of death

Their death certificates would also indicate where in the Guildford area they were living. 
Presuming they were still at Stringers Common they could be at Worplesdon / Burpham/ Mayford or even Stoke Church in Guildford to name a few.

They had a church wedding 6 Dec 1832 at Mordington, Berwickshire, after an earlier clandestine marriage.

I'm not clear, how to order a death certificate without knowing the date of death.  Which comes first: the chicken or the egg?  John's death was recorded in the Jan-Mar 1885 quarter; Mary's in the Apr-June 1885 quarter.

You don't have to know the actual date of death to order a copy of the deaths cert

All you need is the quarter, year, district, volume and page number which is available from freebmd

You can order online at www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

There is a question asked "For all events Is the GRO Index Reference Number known?" 

You can answer yes to it and proceed from there on

Woking would register in Guildford registration district.
The churchyard of St John the Baptist Woking did not close until 1954 and in Old Woking St Peter's churchyard closed in 1932. There may also have been non-conformist burial grounds in the Woking area. There was one cemetery in Woking. Brookwood cemetery which was perceived locally as the cemetery for Londoners as a railway ran directly from Waterloo station to the cemetery. In its day Brookwood was one of the largest cemeteries in the world. As well as Londoners locals would also be buried in the cemetery. Surrey parish registers are held at the Surrey History Centre and should begin to appear on the subscription website Ancestry in 2013.

The fact that James Clazey, Mary's nephew some distance away in Sunderland sought the administration of her estate gives some indication she may not have had children or any at least that survived her.
