« on: Wednesday 07 July 04 09:43 BST (UK) »
Researching Joseph Alexander Skinner born to Elizabeth Skinner at Brenchley, Kent in 1848. I have his birth certificate but cab find no other early record of him. He appears on the 1881 census in London.

Hi there,  thanks so much. That's him, it's answered a theory that I had. Joseph married a Diana STOLTON, so when I came across a William STOLTON marrying an Elizabeth SKINNER after Joseph's birth in 1848. I thought there might be a connection. It's transcribed wrongly as HOLTON, but they appear on the 1881 census as STOLTON.

Thanks again

Hi Shirley

It wasn't transcribed as HOLTON (I didn't look at any transcription) but, as you say, it would be STOLTON rather than the HOLTON which I was thinking it could be .  Just glad that you've confirmed your theory  :D

Best wishes

Thanks again. I recently found my DALTON's transcribed as BOULTON and COSTELLO as COSTETTS. No wonder it took me so long to find them.

Cheers
