Are We Descended from the Beaker People?
« on: Thursday 27 December 12 14:58 GMT (UK) »
For those of us who find our more distant past as interesting as our recent past, DNA testing of remains found on a 4500 yr old Beaker burial site has found that the 2 males were both of haplogroup R1b (the most common DNA group found in Britain):-

Some previous studies have suggested the Beaker People looked like immigrants that displaced previous inhabitants, so this opens up the possibility that it may have been the Beaker People who brought R1b into Western Europe. It's early days yet of course, and pure speculation, but it seems we are slowly getting more clues about our past.
