West Hanney records
« on: Monday 31 December 12 14:19 GMT (UK) »
Please are west Hanney records now in Oxford or Reading or both?
I have two people  named DUNSDON from West Hanney.
Elizabeth b 1848 who married William FROUD in 1865 in Wantage
Mary Ann b 1851 m Joseph GILES in 1869 also inWantage

Elizabeth is on my husbands tree and Mary Ann on my tree  but we need to trace both back to see how they relate and to be sure they relate us to each other  ;D.

On the 1861 census both Dunsdon girls are on the same page; Elizabeth living with her parents William and Eliza, and a few doors away Mary Ann living with the Field family. I think the street looks like Brook Street West Hanney.
regards.

Many thanks
I think Mary Ann was the daughter of Henry DUNSDON and Mary Nee WAYNE and as you say Elizabeth was the daughter of William and Eliza
Henry married in 1842

\i really need to see if Henry and William relate. They are close together on the censuses and both were Sawyers but I don't think that circumstancial evidence will be enough to prove they relate.
I haven't got any of the certificates yet as until yesterday we had thought each Dunsdon was right on the edge of both trees but yesterday my husband decided to add the censuses fir them and surprise surprise found both had married in Wantage. His family were the Frouds from Wantage and mine are the Giles from Hampton Poyle Oxon we never thought the two would meet up in this way.

Mary Ann's mother was married three times to a Dunsdon ,a Johnson and a Field so her family is a bit hard to unravel.

Not sure were the records are kept but Wantage Library do have trascribed records on microfiche for most of the area. Also there are philimores marriages online for Wantage and West Hanney but they end about 183*.   http://archive.org/search.php?query=berkshire%20parish%20registers

OxFHS CD WAN-01 includes West Hanney PRs, but only up to 1812 :(

Meanwhile, on a more positive note, this is from the BFHS Marriage Index:
West Hanney  6 August 1832
William DUNSDON married Eliza HIGGS.
(Absence of address implies both from WH.  No details of fathers or occupations were recorded at that time.)

Sorry, I've never visited Wilts RO (or Berks) so can't help you there.  Come to think of it, my only visit to St Luke's (ORO) was when I was baptised and I have no memory of the event ::)

I have been yo St lukef several times its best to book as the reading room isn't particularly big and its easier to use public transport as parking is limited but the bus service is fine. Its got a lovely coffe shop too but you need take your own food The coffee is freshly made and served in china cups a good example to many other ROs Its just getting a slot in the diary now If I can't get there soon I'll send for the CD
