I visited North Yorks Record Office yesterday and looked at the St Mary's, Whitby marriage for William Jackson and Elizabeth Allison on 28 August 1782 (microfilm)
William Jackson militia man and widower, Elizth Allison spinster, both of this parish. Banns publised 9, 16, 23/6. Both made X. Witnesses: Dorothy Brown, Michael Blackbeard, both signed. Henry Archer, Curate performed the ceremony.
Mr Blackbeard seems to have been a witness at several marriages.
Looking at some of the Whitby baptisms for children of William & Elizabeth Jackson (printed transcription):
Jane 20 June 1783, born & baptised same day. William is a labourer of Whitby. (R)
William 12 Oct 1785, born & baptised same day. Poor, labourer of Whitby. (R)
Ann 8 Jan 1788, born 6 Jan 1788. Sailor of Whitby. 'P' R*
The notes state that (R) possibly means Received into Church. 'P' may mean privately baptised. * denotes that this belongs to one of four baptismal registers which appear to be drafts or rough copies.
I skipped through to the last one at Whitby - Hannah born 26 Jan 1808, baptised 28 Jan 1808, Sailor of Whitby.
The three at Hinderwell are:
Elizabeth born 25 March, baptised 27 March 1811, of Staithes.
Jane baptised 24 Feb 1814, Boatman of Staithes.
Matthew baptised 24 August 1816, Boatman of Staithes.
Hope this helps.
