Radiant Firelighter Company, Mansfield
« on: Saturday 05 January 13 22:18 GMT (UK) »
My husband's grandad worked at the above firm, from a photo he has it looks as though it is on or near to the station at Mansfield.  The photo looks as though it was taken just after the end of WW2.  Anyone have any recollections of the above firm, or any idea of when it finished trading.  Someone we showed the photo to said he thought the firm finished after the premises were destroyed in a fire but he had no idea of when this could have been.  I am certain I can remember Radiant firelighters as a child in the 50's when most people had coal fires.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Anything I can find out I shall write up and give to Mansfield Museum with copies of the photos.
Liz

Thanks for that, I now have a date for the start of liquidation for the company, so if I search local papers prior to that date I may find out whether or not its demise WAS caused by a fire or maybe there would be a report of some kind which detailed what had happened to it.  The only other evidence I have is a listing in a trade gazette, but that was in 1940's

Found another London Gazette notice that the company was voluntarily wound up on 5th December 1952, so next move will be Notts Archives to see if any of the papers are lodged there - fingers crossed
Thanks again
