Help needed with Edinburgh street name please

I would like to find out where this place is which occurs on one of my ancestor's certificates, but first I need to determine exactly what it says. The death was registered in 1888 in Edinburgh St Andrews.

Any help with either part would be greatly appreciated.

My best guess would be East Lyne Place?

There is still a Lyne St, near Holyrood.

Just had a look on google maps. There is still an Eyre Place
in Edinburgh.

PO Directory lists an Eyre Place East at that date, but no Houston listed as living at any of the addresses. 

Don't see any Houstons listed at an address that looks like this one.

Thank you very much everybody. My own thought was that it said East Eyre Place. What was putting me off was that I couldn't find an East Eyre Place on maps from the time, only ever Eyre Place. I also don't know exactly what area Edinburgh St Andrews district covered.

Nell, it would have been nice if they had stayed long enough to be included in the PO directory. I don't know how long a PO directory takes to produce, but I know that this family moved a lot. They had 12 children, and every single one of them was born at a different address, with the censuses all being different addresses again. My uncle used to think they didn't pay the rent!

The PO directories tend to be annual e.g. 1882-83 and then 1883-84.  I checked a couple of them around the time, but of course not everybody had their name included.

This might help you with the areas/districts.  I could wish it went a bit further but it is quite useful.
