I wonder if anyone can help l am looking for Frederick Parker b 1891-1968 Military records and his birth/christening records. l know he was in the 3rd East Kent Regiment the Buffs for 13years 9months he fought in WW1 his mate Edward Duke died and Frederick took on his wife and family marrying Mary Annie Smith in 1919 he stayed in the army until around 1922, he served in India as mounted police and went to Africa also there is a story that he was a gunner on a sub off the coast of America all this information is by word of mouth so l am not sure how accurate it is.
His father Mark and mother Alice -nee Ayres- were Romany Gypsies they lived in Epsom, Worcester Park, Cheam.l have looked through the ancestry site and just keep drawing a blank.

I've had a quick look at the censuses and the family seem to have arrived in Cheam between 1868 and 1870. Do you have any birth certificates for any of Frederick's siblings? I would expect the answer to be no as travelling families seem to fall through cracks in the registration service.

The parish registers for St Dunston Cheam 1538-1954 appear to have been deposited at Sutton Library in the local studies section.

Because they aren't at the LMA, the registers won't appear on Ancestry. It doesn't look like the LDS have microfilmed them either.

As the family were long standing residents, there is every chance that the younger 10 children would have been baptised at the parish church and is might be worth your while paying for a baptism search for them if you aren't able to visit in person.

Just for your info, this from the National Archives....

"Many army service records between 1914 and 1920 do not exist as they were destroyed by enemy bombing in 1940 - only about 40% survive.  The condition of the surviving service records can vary greatly - some are badly damaged".

"You are unlikely to find regular soldiers who continued in the army after 1920 or soldiers who transferred to another service, taking their service record with them".

If your man did serve in the army after 1920 then his records will still be held by the MoD - see here:

There is a service record (1912-1919) for a Frederick PARKER age 20 as of 1912 birthplace given as Stoke nr Guildford, Surrey (Queen's Royal West Kents).  Next of kin given as Mark PARKER of Slyfield Farm, Stoke, Guildford.  He was also Military Foot Police

Regimental numbers:  1512, 240175, P11640 (M F Police)

You should be able to locate his record at Ancestry.co.uk where you can take out a free 14 day trial subscription if you haven't subscribed to the site previously.

Thank you for your replies l now know Frederick was in the 1 East Yorkshire Regiment we thought he was the Frederick from stoke Guildford but he is defenetly in the 1911 census stationed at Aldershot as we know for sure he was born in Worcester Park Surrey.

Have you found birth registrations for all/any of the other children?  I can see some of them (William, Henry, Louisa, Alice) baptised in Cheam http://www.familysearch.org but not Frederick ........... perhaps it would be worthwhile checking "Worcester Park" churches
