Elsie May WEBB nee Turner - Help with Death please
« on: Monday 14 January 13 11:58 GMT (UK) »
Kia Ora
Hoping someone may help or even know of the circumstances of the death of ELSIE MAY TURNER born  mid 1897 West Bromwich to Robert & Sarah TURNER.  I think she was one of 8 children.
In 1914 she married PHILIP FAIRY WEBB in Walsall. In 1931 Elsie and Philip emigrated to Mozambique - I think with a daughter Jean.

The next 31 years are a mystery to me but the South African National Archives records state that Philip and Elsie WEBB both died in 1962 in Pretoria Transvaal. (no other dates mentioned).

Elsie's siblings were Robert, William, George Ernest,Florence Maria, Amos, Frank Roland, and Alfred Arthur TURNER as best I can tell.

1. Might there be family doing research who knows of the circumstances of their deaths which were obviously very close.
2. Might there be a funeral notice or newspaper article recording their deaths?
3. Does anyone have any ideas on resources I can use - would their deaths be recorded in England for instance?
Any help /advice greatly appreciated,
Thanks
Dale

Previous thread to save duplications, which refers to the deaths being a car accident:

If the deaths were registered in the UK they would be on the GRO Overseas indices -

As they'd emigrated 30+ years earlier it's less likely they'd be registered in the UK.

Hi Dale, I searched for Philip Webb going to Africa between 1900 and 1935 and found 3 entries:
-1931 Philip Webb (b1895) aboard the ADOLPH WOERMANN to South Africa
-1930 WP Webb (b1884) to SA
-1933 PG Webb (b1879) to SA

There is a Jean Webb age 5 aboard the ADOLPH WOERMANN that matches the first entry

Not sure that any of these fit all the facts you gave but if you did a more thorough search to match Philip,Elsie & Jean of the right ages would do it.  The full lists are available for only a few credits.  Many of the ships to SA went via Mozambique.

Hope this helps ...

Regards,

Paul
