Edward William Walmsley Roberts 1852?
« on: Monday 14 January 13 12:50 GMT (UK) »
hi all. i could very much do with a little help with this one. i have taken a break from my searching for the last year and im sure im rusty or missing something obvious.
Edward William Walmsley Roberts born 1852.
1901 listed as edward roberts born wavertree abt 1853 occupation fish ?
wife jane roberts (nee davies) born abt 1876 prescott
children william born abt 1884 walter chas born abt 1897 frederick born abt 1900

obviously i know that william born abt 1884 cannot be janes son. i have them in 1911 also with edward listed as a bird dealer (or bud dealer as transcribed) i have most information about edward william after 1911. i have his death and his probate record. i cannot find him before 1901. i have no idea who he was previously married to nor who his parents were. i have looked for an edward with a son william aged about 7  in 1891 and im not finding anything obvious. am i missing something?

any help would be really gratefully recieved x

1871 3851/16/26

He is still in Wavertree  in the household of George and Mary Mason - recorded as stepson so Mary presumably remarried.

I'll leave it to you now.  ;)

I've been following the trail of William Ephraim Roberts (a seaman and a widower) who married Catherine Turner at St Silas in 1918. His father is shown as Edward Walmsley Roberts, bricklayer. Did the clerk mistranscribe "birddealer" I wonder.

There was a William Ephraim Roberts birth registered in Wirral in 1883.

The we have this entry in the 1891 census (26 Prescot St West Derby) :

Edward Roberts - 39 (?) dog and bird dealer - born Liverpool
Hannah - wife - 37 - born Eastham Cheshire
Wm. E - son - 7 - scholar - born Sutton Cheshire

They were living in Little Sutton at the time of William's baptism in 1883. I've looked at the baptism register and Edward really was a bricklayer at that time!
