My great grandfather John King's address on his marriage cert in 1867 was given as Glin Kilrush. He was born in May 1840, can anyone tell me if there was a RC church in Glin at that time as I would like to find any details of his birth and poss parents marriage.

Hi, I can't answer your question as I'm not local but I'm just nosy and thought I would throw my thruppence in. The only 'Glin' I could find was some 15 miles over the Shannon Estuary in Limerick, but then I had a look at Kilrush in Clare.

If you go google, you'll see that the surname Glynn has a long history in Kilrush (eg. mill and shipping connections). So maybe there is a family name connection (Glynn / Glin).

Anyhow, here's a list of people evicted from their houses that may be relevant to the area:

The RC Parish for Kilrush town and surrounding area is St. Senans, and historic records for the parish go back to about 1827. These are available in the National Library of Ireland on microfilm, and also on an LDS film number 0979696 item 4, which could probably be ordered via your nearest     LDS Family history library.

Hi,

I actually have a copy of LDS 0979696 out on loan at the moment.

I will be re-visting the LDS centre in Clermont Ferrand in the next week or two, once this latest snowfall has left us.

I must say that the microfilm is not of great quality but I am more than happy to have a look for you should you wish.

There are ten sections on the microfilm, of which three should be of interest to yourself. Those being

Kilrush Baptism's Aug 1st 1827 - Sept 29 1863

Killaloe Kilrush Baptism's Oct 1 1863 - Dec 31 1880

Kilrush Marriage's Jan 7 1829 - Dec 6 1880

I repeat that sections of the microfilm are of very poor quality.
